Full walk-through for New Installation.
9 Steps total
Step 1: Download Citrix DNE
You will need to download the Stand-alone Installer for the DNE that is included with the Cisco VPN Installer - for unknown reasons, the Cisco Installer will fail to install it. You can get this from:
ftp://files.citrix.com/dneupdate64.msi
ftp://files.citrix.com/dneupdate64.msi
Step 2: Install Citrix DNE
Standard Install, Run MSI, Agree to EUA and click Next until Finish.
Step 3: Download Cisco VPN 64-bit Installer
Presuming if you are reading this, you either have the Installer already or have a contract with Cisco so you can get it form their support system. The latest (and to my knowledge, last version) is 5.0.07.0290. Once you have downloaded, run.
Step 4: Install Cisco VPN Client
When the Unzip Wizard opens, change the path to someone easy to access and click Unzip. If you have UAC enabled, you will get a prompt to run the Installer, click No - if you don't gave UAC installed, you will get an error - ignore the error and move to next step.
Step 5: Run the Installer
Open the folder you extracted the files to and run vpnclient_setup.msi (not one with the UAC Shield, Windows 10 will block it.)
Step 6: Follow SOP for Installer
Click Next, Next, Next, Finish.
Step 7: Modify the Registry
This is something we have been doing since Windows 8. When the installer runs, it creates a registry key with a value that is prefixed with erroneous data.
Save the following to VPNFix.reg and run it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesCVirtA]
'DisplayName'='Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows'
'DisplayName'='Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows'
Step 8: Finish Configuring
Now, you can open the Cisco VPN Client and continue configuring as per previous versions of Windows (create a new Host and provide required credentials.)
Step 9: 'Major' updates
Once in a while, Microsoft will deploy a build big enough (seems to coincide with Patch Tuesday...) When this happens, Windows will re-examine the system for software they deem not compatible and will render the VPN Client inert. The fix is to use Add or Remove Programs and Repair the Cisco VPN Client. Takes about 5 seconds and it will start working again.
You will then have to re-run Step 7 to fix the registry key again.
*One option to avoid this might be to remove the permissions from the Registry key, but I haven't tried that yet.
Make a ZIP file with all the files you need and label them Step1,2,3 and modify your instructions to your End-Users to run 1,2,3 and it should cut down your support calls for new Installs. Hope it helps.

Issues installing Cisco VPN Client on your Windows 10 PC? Follow these steps:
- Install DNE Update from Citrix, selecting your proper platform (either 32 or 64 bits), download fromhttps://www.citrix.com/go/lp/dne.html, direct link for 64 bits version isftp://ftpsupport.citrix.com/dneupdate64.msi
- Download Cisco VPN Client installer, you can find it here: https://helpdesk.ugent.be/vpn/en/akkoord.php
- Install 7Zip or another compressed EXE tool, you can download it fromhttp://www.7-zip.org/download.html
- Right click on the Cisco VPN installer (vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0440-k9.exe), then «Extract to vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0440-k9»
- Go into that folder, double click on vpnclient_setup.msi and then do a normal setup.
- When installation finishes, from your Start Menu type ¨regedit¨. We have to fix the VPN adapter’s name. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesCVirtA:
- Double click on DisplayName and remove everything to the left of «Cisco Systems VPN…», so it’s only «Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows»:
- With this last step we are finished and can run the VPN client and connect without any issues.
- If after some Windows updates you can connect to your VPN but can’t see any other devices on your VPN network, just reinstall DNE Update.
